If,like me, you really hate going to the dentist--this mystery of serial killing dentists is just for you--the "accidental" deaths are so over the top that they are really funny. My only problem with the book is that these amazing dental deaths are never explained--I kept wondering how these murders were achieved. Story is over the top--but highly entertaining.

BBC science club and Phobic Wars link

BBC science club and Phobic Wars
Scientists in Brazil have developed a new way of addressing the rise in dengue fever.
They treat the male mosquitoes and produce them at a rate of 100,000 per week,  releasing them so they can mate with the female mosquitoes.
This then ensures that the offspring,  the larvae do not live to maturity as the produced larvae that would die before they passed on disease.
Great science but what about the balance of nature?

Phobic Wars
My book hypothesised this scenario but instead of mosquitoes it involved Cockroaches.
The link between real science and my book based on fiction are uncanny.
Is there a real message not to interfere with nature in this novel ?
I urge you to read it and make your own mind up on this... And it's inexpensive

Cruising in the Baltic : part 2

RUSSIA
St Petersburg was beautiful,  it's opulent buildings on a city built by Peter the Great in the 1700s.
Modeled on Venice,  it's many canals now turned into roads but still definitely water based.
The mighty river Neva passing through it and on whose bank,  the ship that signaled the revolution in 1917,  the Aurora, is in permanent show.
The many bridges that now crisscross the numerous waterways make the city transferable however nothing beats a boat ride...
Awe inspiring buildings of all styles,  the shiny golden domes..  Stunning.

Managed to buy a Russian hat and a few other souvenirs,  including a book about the city that is very interesting and full of wonderful photographs.

The church on the spilt blood was awesome too but the thing that marred it was a mugging on some American tourist in our coach.

Next was Tallin,  Estonia.
This was the best city we visited..  It's old town is an inspiration and the people were friendly and helpful.
The sites were capped by the park that was formerly Peter the great's summer palace.  Beautiful..
We had the best ever pavlova there.  I'd recommend Tallin and we plan to visit again for more time there.
The problem with cruises,  you have very little time in places that are nice and deserve a longer visit...  The chew family obviously thought the same...  They missed the ship!!
They would be looked after by the local agents and then have to fund their stay,  flights extra...  Oops

After this would be two days at sea until the next and final city,  Amsterdam.

Amsterdam was a lovely city but we did not visit the red light district or take drugs.  Instead we had a lovely civilised tour of this wonderful city and it's sights, sampled the food and drink...

Next day,  Dover and home.
After 12 days of being spoilt,  back to reality and normality.

Cruising,  I'd do It again,  however nothing beats coming home.

Cruising in the Baltic: part 1

Mayden voyage
There's a first time for everything,  this was one for us... Julie and I were going on our cruise.
We set off from Dover, on the Carnival Legend to undertake our first proper cruise.
We'd been down the nile and that was superb but this was our first multinational cruise,  exciting.
Why a cruise?  I love flying but with all the terrorism threats,  I'm fed up with the security measures we have to put up with.  Be at the airport 3 hours prior to departure,  100ml rile,  no sharps etc, etc, etc.  Then I seem to always be chosen at random for more extensive searching of my property and person...  No internal as yet though (phew!!!)
I am no mathematician but to randomly be chosen that many times,  there must be some skewed variable in my probability aura?  Or do you think my skin colour and name may influence this???  Sarcastic but what the hell...

Checking in or boarding was a pleasure.
Smiling helpful people,  luggage was taken care of,  all we needed to do was board and go to lunch at...  Wow.

Legend
The legend is a beautiful ship,  massive and tall.  Over 2000 passengers,  a big crew and loads of facilities.
Three swimming pools and Jacuzzis,  a plethora of restaurants and bars,  casino, shops,  nightclub,  theatre and comedy club.
Food was plentiful and decent.
The passengers from varying ages,  walks of life and countries.
I was surprised at the range of people.

State rooms
The cabin,  state rooms was well appointed and our balcony allowed a little escape from the hustle and bustle of the holiday makers when needed.
Our stewards were very attentive,  supplying us with the necessary towel animals,  chocolates on pillow and clean room we needed to make this relaxing vaccination more special.

Safety
The whole ship load of people had to undertake the safety briefing,  walk to the appropriate muster station,  deck 3 was ours,  and ensure we took notice and listened.
Especially so as our ships captain was an Italian and after recent Costa crashes.... Our captain was thankfully excellent.

Visits
Copenhagen, Denmark followed by wademunden,  Germany with the next stop being Helsinki, Finland. All were so wonderful,  Denmark was a bit pricey but good to see it again.
We paddled on the east sea in Germany and caught our first glimpse of German ingenuity with their hamper like beach furniture / wind breaks...  Must sees.
We also noted a rather rotund man unashamedly undressing in the public beach,  no towel to cover any modesty...  His modeling career obviously never materialised!!!

Saw some lovely buildings and boats, sat people watching and enjoying the local brew from Rostock,  highly recommend this too.  A very palatable and thirst quenching beer. Prost
Helsinki again was a beautiful city. I was tempted by reindeer meat but opted for salmon..  Somehow Xmas could never be the same if I'd eaten rudolph.

Someone offered me 8 legs of venison for 20 Euro,  I refused,  I thought it was too dear (two deer...   :-) get it??

Next entry will be Russia,  Estonia, Holland...

Gibraltar, Britain in the sun

Have you been following the series on channel 5?
What are your thoughts on this?

As a Gibraltarian,  I have mixed feelings about this...  I feel that Gibraltar is small but obviously far bigger than the few people this programme has concentrated on and it has also not represented Gibraltar in its true glory.  The people,  their patriotism and culture,  their struggle with 'the neighbours'...
I hope tonight's programme is better.
I will be watching and getting home sick!!!

Innovation in 21st century

The pace of life is ongoing,  more advances in technology and innovation on a daily basis.
Protection of ideas is very important however it becomes a stumbling block to progression.
I had an idea a few years ago and invested time and money into it but resulting in no returns.  The idea is still good and very much needed but finding the right model to take the idea to market is an issue.

If anyone wants to share their experiences of this,  how to best tackle the process and success,  please add into this post?

I look forward to seeing some postings

Mental Dental (MBP)

Mental Dental

Jessie Stack is an ordinary dentist in an ordinary situation who gets wrongly accused for the murder of a patient under her care. A patient suddenly dies in the dental surgery during a routine procedure.

The ensuing investigation reveals that the patient died in the dental surgery, however, an open verdict is given.  Therefore, she is legally innocent, but being hounded by the press and her credibility is put to the test when patients no longer want to see her.

Jessie takes some time off and escapes to review her options and try and make sense of what has happened.  She comes from a long line of dentists and uses her influence to a crude investigative hunch to examine deaths in dental surgeries in the UK.  Through her research and access to privileged information gained through her contacts, she establishes that there have been 18 deaths in the last 12 years in dentistry and examines the information to reveal a very loose thread.

The thread is that there are clusters of deaths, 3 people have died across different area / towns / cities / countries within the UK in a short period of time, they have died horrifically and within dental surgeries, seemingly by otherwise innocent dentists but the deaths are not seen as suspicious or connected.

Each death has no connection or obvious motive but they fast become more daring and more horrific

The deaths occur in Scotland, England and Wales. They occur sporadically in clusters of 3 every few years. Because of the geographical spread, the crimes have been undetected and never connected, but she has a few suspicions that are confirmed when she establishes there are 3 killer dentists, 1 female and 2 males that are killing people across the UK. Jessie Stack uncovers that this is a sick game they have played since qualifying as dentists, one is a psychopath, the other a weak nerd and the female is an evil nymphomaniac.  However, this is not revealed until quite late on.

By the time she finishes her own investigation, and she has the evidence to support the allegation, she needs to tell the police, nevertheless, she has obtained the information through illegal means, therefore she has to tread carefully to disseminate the information without any comeback to her or her sources.

The Police agree to deal with the investigation results, furthermore as the deaths have occurred in such diverse places, they need to work across all affected areas of the UK and seem to do their own investigative work and assure Jessie is not implicated. This takes a little time to establish and during this time another patient is killed.

By this point, they have evidence and CCTV footage to implicate one of the suspects, who then reveals the plot.  They arrest the other two. When the arrests are made they find a secret bunker / basement full of files and video footage where they have recorded their misadventures and further evidence of killings, the builders they hired to dig this secret bunker.

It transpires they have been awarding themselves points for killing patients, additions for making it horrific, not getting caught.  Thereafter, having an orgy as a final reward every time they complete a cluster of deaths, filming their perversions for their own pleasure.

The moral of the story, if any, crime does not pay, all get caught eventually and the innocent will be vindicated. From prime suspect to heroine.

It also intonates that dentistry, however painful,  should not cause fatalities....

Unique, original and a memorable read...

How many books make it to film?

Barages of emails are received with offers of turning one of my books into a movie.
They come with a cost attached of course.  However I am interested to know if anyone reading this blog knows someone who's story has inspired a movie?
In deed if anyone has had a published book turned into a film?
Was this spontaneous or supported by financially driven means through a publisher?
It would be great as some books lend themselves to conversion to the silver screen.
I have always thought this would be great but equally very difficult to convert. The process of writing a book is a steep learning curve, writing a screen play..  A minefield

Your thoughts would be appreciated as would any links or tips...

I eagerly await your response
Thanks
Ram :-)

Only a few days until the AARP conference in Las Vegas

Not long now until the AARP conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This is your chance to get a copy of my book 'Legally Lucky'.

It's been compared to the likes of' Slum Dog Millionaire' and ' The pursuit of happiness'.. I think it's a moving story that should kick start the reader into pursuing a great life and not chasing financial security only.
Most of all,  it's a short tale that is a roller coaster ride of the ups and downs of being rich...  I guess!!!

I aspire to many things as well as being financially solvent.  I would certainly not be adverse to having a few millions.

It tells us that it is good to pursue your dreams, hopes and aspirations (incidentally this was the working title). However, it also reminds us not to put our lives on hold and live life in full and savour every moment.

Remember to drop by the Authorhouse stand and ask for your copy.

Enjoy the conference and relax with your copy of Legally Lucky.

Oh yummy,  crunchy, sweet corn
We met at dinner but one day ago
With a little nob of butter,  you were great I'd have sworn

Then today my tummy did rumble, urgently needing the loo
With a few moments to spare relief and much to my surprise, we met again
